The absorbance of liquids can be measured using a standard cuvette, which is positioned in an adapter in the R-300.
Depending on the type of measurement, different adapters can be used. The LED light source of the R-300 is switched on before the measurement. The light passes the cuvette with the liquid and is then detected.

Thanks to the digital holographic microscopy of the R-300, cell counting and viability determination is possible.
Cell counting is fully automated, because machine learning algorithms such as neural networks evaluate cell count and viability.
The neural network analyzes cells extracted from the background by differentiating between cell forms and measuring the cell's viability.
In this way, cell counting and viability measurement is faster, easier and more specific than with the standard method.
This eliminates the need for manual counting, which is less precise and more time-consuming.

Do the functions of the fluidlab R-300 differ from conventional laboratory measuring instruments?
Unlike other cell counters, fluidlab R-300 uses a new microscopy technology. This is the digital holographic microscopy.
This creates so-called "holograms" of the cells. These holograms contain information that is not captured by brightfield images.
For analysis using the neural network, the cells are extracted from the background and the required information is determined. Thanks to this technology the cells are not only counted more reliably, but their viability is also measured without the use of dyes.
Like most spectrometers, the spectrometer of the R-300 works with light that passes through the liquid and is detected at the end. However, it has an LED light source, while other spectrometers have a Xenon lamp. With a spectral resolution of about 2 nm it is more accurate than other spectrometers, which have a resolution of about 5 nm.
